About this course

A management skills training course for new and aspiring managers and team leaders, to introduce delegates to the complex issues of management and leadership. The course will build a foundation of skills necessary for successfully leading a team. It provides you with the practical knowledge and skills that you can implement in your role.

Delivered over four sessions online. Each session is 90 minutes on a Thursday. We also arrange three optional bonus sessions, which are held on a Tuesday at 6pm for 45 minutes. These are coaching, reflection and catch up sessions.

What should I be doing? Being a manager can be tough, this will help guide you on the areas to focus on and pinpoint the areas that can make a real difference to your role.

Managing my friends

Techniques to help overcome this tricky subject. If you have friendships within your team, your management role may be difficult. We focus on the techniques you need and the boundaries you can implement to successfully manage friends at work.

Effective Communication

What I can do to improve? Communication both verbal and non-verbal are essential for a manager. How you communicate with your team is essential. This is a key area for you to increase your knowledge and continue to develop your skill.

Workload & Delegation

Prioritising workload and delegation skills. Helping you identify the areas you can make a positive impact on both your work load and also the work load of your team.

Staff motivation

Understanding what motivates staff. Individuals are motivated by different factors. We look at the key factors to help you with staff that need an increase in motivation, and the practical steps that you can take.

Handling Conflicts

Introduction to handling interpersonal conflict. Handling difficult situations and challenging conversations is one of the most difficult part of a managers job. Does it cause you anxiety, do you worry that you will not take the right steps? This session will equip you with the skills and techniques to guide you to make a positive impact.

At the end of the course delegates will be able to:

Identify their responsibilities as managers

Set expectations in relation to behaviours and results

Understand how individuals and teams develop

Have improved skills to support handling of ‘difficult’ situations

Frequently asked questions

Four online training sessions – 90 minutes each, course materials, optional 45 minute reflection and catch up sessions, opportunities to network with other delegates, develop your knowledge and skills.

We cover a number of topics that will help your role, help you develop your knowledge to manage staff, build your confidence and network with other managers, supervisors and team leaders.

You are not required to stand up and role play in front of the group, unless you want to of course. Most of the course concentrates on small group work, one to one tasks and mini workshop activities.

We work with managers to help them develop advance management skills through our other courses and one to one coaching sessions.

We use Zoom to deliver our online training, you do not need any specific software, we send you all the links you need. If you have a laptop, tablet, Ipad or PC you will be able to access the training. Please let us know if you have any specific requirements.
